The "Time" Series

Introduction

The "Time" series is based on my poem written in Chinese about how my body changes over time. Each piece turns part of the poem into a surreal, poetic image.

歲月在眼角敲裂了縫
幾尾小魚游了出來

低頭時,月色垂落
雙生倒影映出滄海

曾經平坦的小腹
圈起柔軟的海岸線
浪來過,又靜靜退遠

In Chinese, crow’s feet are called 魚尾紋, meaning "fishtail lines." This piece transforms that idea into a surreal image.

Small fish swim out from the corner of the eye, representing time passing and memories drifting away. I added beads to represent bubbles, bringing texture to the image.

Tears fall into a quiet pool, reflecting twin shadows that shift like the tide.

In my poem, twin shadows not only represent a past version of myself but also symbolize a double chin. Time reshapes both our features and how we see ourselves. The water distorts the image, just as time distorts self-perception.

Inspired by my poem, this piece reimagines the belly as a shoreline, encircling the body like a floating ring.

Waves flow from the waist, merging the body with the sea. The figure holds a bead, echoing the elements in the previous works—symbolizing both connection and the fleeting nature of youth.

This reflects the words in my poem: the waves came and quietly retreated, a reminder that time is always shifting, never staying the same.

Process Process

In addition to acrylic painting, I added beads to the canvas to create depth and texture. I chose iridescent beads that change color from different angles, reflecting the shifting nature of time and memory. Their shimmer brings a sense of movement, making the artwork feel more alive—just like how our perception of ourselves is always changing.
